Supreme Court of India finds Gujarat judge and police officer guilty of contempt for arresting on interim bail.

The Supreme Court of India found a Gujarat judge and police officer guilty of contempt for arresting and remanding an accused person despite a Supreme Court-granted interim anticipatory bail. The court criticized the practice in Gujarat where courts impose restrictive conditions on anticipatory bails and held that judicial mind must be applied to the facts of each case before granting police custody remand. The contemnors will appear before the court on September 2, 2024, to determine their sentences.
