St. Jude researchers discover molecular mimicry linking SARS-CoV-2 to MIS-C in children.

Researchers at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital have discovered a link between the SARS-CoV-2 virus and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). A study published in Nature revealed molecular mimicry, where a section of the virus's protein closely resembles a human protein (SNX8), causing the immune system to mistakenly attack the body's own cells. This finding could improve understanding of MIS-C diagnosis and treatment, and potentially lead to early interventions for those at risk.
