SBM Offshore secures contract to build and lease an FSO for Woodside's Trion deepwater oil field in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Netherlands-based SBM Offshore has secured a contract to build and lease an FSO (Floating Storage and Offloading) unit for Woodside's Trion deepwater oil field project in the western Gulf of Mexico. The FSO, based on a Suezmax-type hull and equipped with a disconnectable turret mooring system, will be able to store 950,000 barrels of crude oil and is expected to contribute to first oil production in 2028. The Trion field, located 180 km off the Mexican coastline, is a joint venture between Woodside (60%) and PEMEX Exploración y Producción (40%).
