2020-2023 saw a rise in weapon attacks on animals in Wales, with 66 reported incidents, mainly targeting wild birds. Crossbow attacks increased from 7 in 2022 to 11 in 2023, while catapult/slingshot incidents rose from 27 to 28. RSPCA's Lead Wildlife Officer Geoff Edmonds expressed concern that these incidents likely represent only a fraction of the actual occurrences. Between 2022 and 2023, wild birds were the most common victims, followed by dogs and farm animals.
