Prospect Lake in Memorial Park, Colorado Springs, reopened after two-week closure due to toxic blue-green algae.
Colorado Springs' Prospect Lake in Memorial Park reopened after a two-week closure due to toxic blue-green algae. The lake was closed after a positive test detected mycrocystin toxin produced by cyanobacteria. Two consecutive negative tests for elevated concentrations of blue-green algae led to the reopening. Visitors are advised to use caution, avoid drinking water, keep children and pets away from the water, and avoid contact with visible algae. Fishing is allowed but requires proper rinsing and organ disposal. Boaters must avoid algae contact. Park staff will continue weekly testing to ensure water quality meets safety standards.
