Nargeolet family files $50M wrongful death lawsuit against OceanGate, operator of imploded sub during Titanic expedition.
French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet's family has filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against OceanGate, the operator of the submersible that imploded during a Titanic wreck site expedition in June 2023. The suit accuses OceanGate of gross negligence, claiming the sub was not equipped to dive to the Titanic due to its carbon fiber construction instead of titanium, and that other components were not built to withstand the immense pressure it faced. The family is seeking over $50 million from OceanGate and Rush's estate. The sub imploded in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Newfoundland on June 18, 2023, killing Nargeolet, OceanGate founder R.S. Rush III, and three passengers.
