Manitoba's government plans to spray for mosquitoes in Altona, Winnipeg, and other areas due to West Nile virus infection.

Manitoba's government has announced plans to spray for mosquitoes in Altona, Winnipeg, and other areas due to high mosquito numbers and evidence of mosquito infection with the West Nile virus. The spraying, which may begin on Friday evening if weather permits, will cover several areas and use Health Canada-approved pesticide DeltaGard 20EW. The risk of human exposure to the West Nile virus is high, and the province expects it to continue during the high-risk period from mid-July to mid-August. No locally acquired human cases of the virus have been confirmed in Manitoba.
