Japanese pharmaceutical Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co. is halting its red yeast rice business due to a health scandal involving its dietary supplements and suspected deaths. The company will begin accepting compensation claims from 19 August for individuals affected by health damages from its supplements, which have resulted in about 10,300 health problem reports, 467 hospitalizations, and 107 deaths. Kobayashi faced criticism for not disclosing the health hazard until March, two months after becoming aware of the potential danger.
