The refinery, which sources gold dore from small-scale and artisanal miners and will later handle large-scale miners' output, is expected to add value to Ghana's gold exports, reduce smuggling, and boost the country's economy. The refinery, which can process 400 kg of gold daily, aims to retain economic value within Ghana and curb illegal gold smuggling.
