China's CNOOC confirms over 100 billion cubic meters of proved gas in South China Sea's Lingshui 36-1 field, expanding domestic energy supply.

China's CNOOC confirmed the approval of over 100 billion cubic meters of proved gas in-place volumes in a new discovery, the Lingshui 36-1 gas field, which is the world's first substantial ultra-shallow gas play in ultra-deepwater. Located in the South China Sea, the field has been tested to produce over 10 million cubic meters per day of natural gas. This discovery comes as CNOOC and other Chinese state-owned energy giants increase domestic oil and gas exploration and production to enhance China's domestic energy supply and energy security. The total proved gas in-place in the South China Sea region has exceeded one trillion cubic meters.
