2025 budget increases health spending by €1.5bn and €1.2bn in 2024 and 2025, despite €1.4bn overspend warning.

Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe expressed confidence in health spending reforms, despite the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council (Ifac) warning of unprecedented health overspends reaching €1.4bn by July. The government has agreed to provide an additional €1.5bn for health spending in 2024 and an additional €1.2bn in 2025 for existing level of service costs, with the HSE and Department of Health planning to use the funds to strengthen financial planning and governance. Budget 2025 will allocate a total of €105.4bn in expenditure.
