Australia's TGA links Garcinia gummi-gutta to rare liver damage cases, urging consumers to stop use if symptoms appear.

Garcinia gummi-gutta, a weight loss supplement ingredient, has been linked to liver damage by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). In some rare cases, the rind's chemical compound, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), has caused liver injury severe enough to require liver transplants. The TGA has urged consumers to stop taking supplements containing Garcinia gummi-gutta if they experience symptoms associated with liver damage and seek medical advice. The agency is currently considering further regulatory action on the issue.
