2021 Alabama medical marijuana program faces delay due to legal disputes over cannabis licenses.

Alabama approved a medical marijuana program in 2021; however, patients are still waiting for access due to legal disputes over licenses for growing and selling cannabis products. The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission has issued licenses to cultivators, processors and others, but licenses for lucrative integrated "seed-to-sale" licenses and dispensaries have been on hold. A temporary restraining order blocks the issuance of these five integrated licenses, and the entire program remains stalled while the dispute plays out in state court. The delay is frustrating for patients who could benefit from medical cannabis.
