36-year-old flight instructor, Philip Everton McPherson II, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and 40 counts of illegally flying with passengers without a certificate after a September 2022 plane crash in Pennsylvania killed a student pilot. McPherson had surrendered his pilot's certificate in 2021 due to prior crashes and failing a certification exam. He pleaded not guilty to the charges carrying a maximum potential sentence of 128 years in prison.
