Wells' Vicars Close, Europe's oldest residential street, receives £4.4m from National Lottery Heritage Fund for conservation works, with £1m raised by Cathedral donors. The medieval street, built over 600 years ago, will undergo critical repairs and open 4 buildings to the public for the first time, aiming to raise £7m in total. The Dean of Wells, Toby Wright, expresses gratitude for the funding, which will help preserve and share the street's heritage.
