Peru's Mashco Piro tribe defended their Amazon territory by attacking suspected loggers, according to FENAMAD.

Peru's Mashco Piro tribe, known for its reclusive nature, has reportedly defended their Amazon territory by attacking suspected loggers, according to regional Indigenous organization FENAMAD. FENAMAD, representing 39 indigenous communities in the Cusco and Madre de Dios regions, believes that illegal logging is taking place on the Mashco Piro's land and one logger was injured in the July 27 attack. The organization warns that a lack of protection measures by the Peruvian government and increased activity by companies and illegal operators on the Mashco Piro territory could lead to devastating consequences, such as disease transmission and increased violence.
