2023 insurgency incidents in Manipur and Nagaland decline 71% from 2014 due to AFSPA reductions.
Since 2014, India's Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) has seen significant reductions in Northeast India, with Tripura and Meghalaya completely withdrawing it, and Assam removing it from all districts except four. In Manipur and Nagaland, the Act applies to fewer districts and police station areas, contributing to a 71% reduction in insurgency incidents, a 60% decrease in security forces personnel deaths, and an 82% decline in civilian fatalities in 2023, compared to 2014.
