Ellsworth Air Force Base commander fired due to B-1 bomber crash amid poor organizational culture and airmanship skills.

Ellsworth Air Force Base commander, Col. Mark Kimball, has been fired following the release of a report on a B-1 bomber crash in January. The report cited a degradation of airmanship skills, inadequate focus on governing directives, lack of discipline, and poor communications regarding airfield conditions and hazards within the unit, leading to an "unhealthy organizational culture." The crash occurred during dense fog when the B-1B crew attempted to land, resulting in the total loss of the bomber.
