31-year-old American cyclist Kristen Faulkner won the women's road race at the Paris Olympics, securing the first US medal in this event in 40 years. Faulkner, a former rower at Harvard, completed the 158-kilometer race in under four hours, finishing 58 seconds ahead of Dutch rider Marianne Vos, who claimed silver. Lotte Kopecky of Belgium and Blanka Vas of Hungary finished in a photo finish, with Kopecky earning bronze. This marks Faulkner's first road race medal and follows the 1984 Los Angeles Games, where Connie Carpenter and Alexi Grewal respectively won gold medals.
