Whipsnade Zoo experiences record deer births, including for vulnerable species.

Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire has seen a record number of deer births, including 26 fallow, 8 sika, 2 Barasingha, 15 Père David, and an estimated 50 Chinese water deer fawns this summer. The zoo supports European conservation breeding programs, particularly for vulnerable Barasingha and Père David deer, and those classified extinct in the wild. Whipsnade Zoo is involved in international efforts to recover Père David deer populations and, due to the successful breeding, some animals will be moved to other zoos as part of the conservation breeding program.
