Wetzel County School Superintendent Cassie Porter appeals to West Virginia Supreme Court against Circuit Court order to reopen Paden City High School on a Superfund site.

Wetzel County School Superintendent Cassie Porter has filed an emergency appeal to the West Virginia Supreme Court to challenge a Circuit Court decision ordering the reopening of Paden City High School. Porter closed the school in June, citing concerns over its location on a US EPA Superfund site and its proximity to a plume of PCE, a likely carcinogen. The school also detected benzene during a recent hearing. Porter argues that her primary duty is to provide a safe learning environment for students.
