The Indian government is finalizing the DPR for a ₹41,000-crore international transhipment port at Great Nicobar Island, with construction expected to begin in the next few months. Located in the Bay of Bengal, the port has received environmental clearances and aims to handle 16 million containers per year by 2040, with the first phase to be commissioned by 2028 at a cost of ₹18,000 crore. The project, situated on the international trade route, includes plans for an airport, a township, and a power plant. Companies such as Larsen & Toubro, Afcons Infrastructure, and JSW Infrastructure have shown interest in the project.
