Belgium withdrew from the mixed relay triathlon at the Paris Olympics after one of its athletes, Claire Michel, who participated in the women's triathlon, fell ill following a swim in the Seine River. Concerns over water quality led to the cancellation of training sessions and a postponement of the men's event, but the mixed relay triathlon proceeded after water samples for individual events showed "very good" quality by World Triathlon's criteria.
