Hybrid speed and red light cameras capture vehicle details and issue fines and penalties for red light violations.
Speed cameras, primarily placed in accident-prone areas, also combine with traffic light cameras to monitor red lights and junctions. When triggered, these hybrid cameras capture digital images of the vehicle's color, type, make, and registration plate, and in some cases, the driver's face. If caught running a red light, drivers typically face three penalty points on their license, a fixed penalty fine, and a Notice of Intended Prosecution sent to the vehicle's owner. Drivers have the right to appeal the penalty notice if they believe they had mitigating circumstances.
