41-year-old Chinese woman, Wan Yee Ng, was indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. for attempting to smuggle 29 eastern box turtles, a protected species, from the U.S. to Canada as part of the illegal global pet trade. The turtles, wrapped in socks, were discovered in a duffle bag by US Border Patrol agents. The smuggling of endangered species can harm wildlife populations and hinder conservation efforts.
