VTA receives $5.1bn federal funding to complete BART extension in Santa Clara County, with 4 stations planned.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has received $5.1 billion in federal funding from the Federal Transit Administration to complete the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) extension in Santa Clara County. The funding, which is the second-largest federal investment in transportation, will support the creation of four stations, including two in downtown San Jose and one in Santa Clara. Despite the grant, a $700 million shortfall remains, and local officials are working on cost-saving measures to meet the funding requirements. The extension aims to provide 75,000 jobs, mostly union roles, and is expected to be completed by 2040.
