Horry County beach patrol officer, Duke Brown, involved in a fatal beach accident, retires and faces wrongful death lawsuit.
Horry County beach patrol officer Julian "Duke" Brown, accused of running over and killing a woman on the beach, has retired. He was placed on administrative leave after the June incident, and the victim's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Horry County Police Department. Brown's service weapon has been declared surplus property, available for him upon retirement. Horry County and Myrtle Beach officials are re-evaluating their beach patrol policies in response to the incident.
