Zambia negotiates additional electricity imports to address energy crisis due to reduced hydropower output.
Zambia faces an energy crisis due to drought-reduced hydropower output, leading to prolonged blackouts. To tackle this issue, the country is negotiating additional electricity imports from South Africa (218MW) and Zimbabwe (details unspecified) through state-owned utility Zesco Limited. This comes after Zambia's national peak demand was 2,400MW, while only 1,040MW was generated, creating a deficit of 1,360MW.
