Wayne County angler, John Tyler Rutherford, broke West Virginia's state record for channel catfish, catching a 43.51-inch, 46.70-pound fish on July 21. This marks the sixth state record catch of 2024 and surpasses previous records set by Alan Burkett in 2022 for length and 2023 for weight. Rutherford's catch was released back into the pond after a brief examination by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
