UK passes law denying serious offenders marital or civil partnership rights while in prison.

The UK government has passed a new law, as part of the Victims and Prisoners Act, preventing the most serious offenders such as Levi Bellfield from entering into marriage or civil partnerships while in prison. This law aims to deny heinous criminals the ability to enjoy significant life events that they deprived their victims of. The legislation follows a civil partnership application by Levi Bellfield, a convicted murderer and rapist serving multiple whole-life sentences, which prompted the government to accelerate the introduction of the restriction.
