The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical wave, Invest 97L, that has formed a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the adjacent waters of the southwestern Atlantic and northeastern Caribbean Sea. The system is expected to be named Debby if it becomes a formal tropical cyclone. The tropical wave is forecasted to move over Cuba before entering the Gulf, and both the GFS and FOX models predict it to reach the Big Bend of Florida by Sunday and Monday.
