52 of top 53 Indian apps found to employ deceptive design practices.

52 of the top 53 Indian apps have been found to use deceptive design practices, affecting user autonomy and informed decision-making. The study by ASCI Academy and design firm Parallel HQ identified 12 distinct "dark patterns" in popular apps, including privacy deception, interface interference, drip pricing, and false urgency. Health-tech apps had the highest prevalence of deceptive patterns, followed by travel booking and e-commerce apps. The report introduced an Ethical Score Calculator and a Gallery of Inspiration to help designers create more transparent and ethical alternatives.
