Scientists find CRTC linked to heart hypertrophy, suggesting potential therapeutic target.
Scientists at Sanford Burnham Prebys and Salk Institute discovered a new role for protein CREB-regulated transcription co-activator (CRTC) in heart structure and function. Overactive CRTC causes cardiac hypertrophy, a thickening of the heart muscle linked to heart disease. The research, using genetically engineered fruit flies, suggests that CRTC may be a potential therapeutic target for hypertrophy and other heart conditions.
