India's doctor-population ratio is 1:836, exceeding the World Health Organization's standard of 1:1000, according to Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel in the Lok Sabha. The National Medical Commission's data shows 13,86,136 registered allopathic doctors and 5.65 lakh AYUSH practitioners as of July 2024. Medical education facilities have expanded with 731 medical colleges, 1,12,112 MBBS seats and 72,627 PG seats.
