Indian Union Minister establishes central fact-checking unit for government information.
Indian Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw defended the government's establishment of a Fact Check Unit, asserting that the Centre is best equipped to verify the accuracy of information related to its ministries and departments. The Supreme Court has previously stayed the Centre's notification setting up a fact-checking unit under the Press Information Bureau. Vaishnaw confirmed that there are no plans to establish regional fact-checking units.
