Gateway Development Commission awards $465.6m tunneling contract for new Manhattan-North Bergen rail tunnel.
Gateway Development Commission awarded a $465.6m contract to Schiavone, Dragados USA, and Lane Construction Corp. for tunneling as part of the $16bn program to build a new two-tube rail tunnel between Manhattan and North Bergen. Tunneling project involves 2 new tunnel boring machines drilling through Palisades rock to construct a 5,100ft, two-tube tunnel. Construction to begin this summer, expected to end in spring 2027, with tunnel construction anticipated to be completed by 2035.
