CEA approves 600 MW Upper Indravati and 2000 MW Sharavathy Hydro Pumped Storage Plants in India, as part of a government plan to enhance energy storage systems.

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has granted approval to two Hydro Pumped Storage Plants (PSPs) in India, the 600 MW Upper Indravati in Odisha by OHPC Ltd and the 2000 MW Sharavathy in Karnataka by KPCL. These projects are part of the government's effort to enhance energy storage systems and ensure energy security by developing Energy Storage Systems, particularly PSPs, with a projected 74 GW installed capacity by 2031-32. The CEA has simplified the process for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and reduced the time required for concurrence to expedite the development of these energy projects.
