40 applications submitted to explore "super battery" reservoir storage for surplus renewable energy in Spain, supporting 81% renewable energy goal by 2030.

Spanish energy companies are exploring "super battery" reservoir storage for surplus renewable energy, with 40 applications to investigate feasibility. The Ministry of Ecological Transition supports reversible hydropower plants, which store and generate electricity using water to manage energy surplus from intermittent renewables like solar and wind. This technology, already used in 21 existing pumped-storage hydroelectric plants, could help meet Spain's goal of 81% renewable energy by 2030.
