26-year-old Emanuel Lopes has been sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the 2018 murders of police officer Sgt. Michael Chesna and bystander Vera Adams in Massachusetts. Lopes, who was fleeing a minor car crash scene, allegedly threw a rock at Chesna, rendering him unconscious, and stole his gun to shoot both victims. Despite his defense arguing that he had a history of mental illness and lacked criminal responsibility, Lopes was found guilty on 11 charges and apologized to the victims' families during his sentencing.
