17-year-old defendant denies murdering 15-year-old Holly Newton in Hexham, Northumberland. Though the teenager, on trial at Newcastle Crown Court, admitted to manslaughter, he claimed to have no memory of the stabbing incident. Holly Newton suffered 36 knife injuries and died despite being taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The prosecution alleges that the defendant followed Holly around the town center for 45 minutes before the attack. The teenager denies causing wounding with intent on another youth who tried to intervene and an alternative charge of wounding.
