80,000 travellers affected as storm in France collapses trees onto train tracks, causing TGV train collision and service disruption.

A local storm in France disrupted high-speed train traffic between Paris and southeast France and Switzerland, affecting 80,000 travellers on 31 July. Storms led to the collapse of trees onto tracks at a junction in the Yonne department, causing a TGV train to collide with one of the fallen trees and resulting in power supply cuts and immobilized trains. The French National Railway Company, SNCF, is undertaking tree-clearing operations but cannot yet allow the trains to continue their routes, and are making efforts to return the trains to stations and ensure passenger care.
