North Carolina's Medicaid program covers OTC birth control pills at no cost for recipients, starting August 1st.

North Carolina's Medicaid program now covers over-the-counter (OTC) birth control pills, including Opill, at no cost for recipients. Over 300 retail and commercial pharmacies across 92 counties will provide these contraceptives without a prescription, effective from August 1st. This initiative, made possible by a 2021 law, aims to expand healthcare accessibility and remove barriers to family planning, particularly in rural areas with limited healthcare providers.
