General Atomics Aeronautical Systems receives a $98M contract from the DoD to develop prototypes for autonomous air-to-air missions, Project Red 5. The project aims to help fourth and fifth-generation Blue Force fighters train against "red air" surrogates, using two MQ-20 Avenger drones equipped with advanced sensors, data links, and mission systems. Project Red 5 is managed by the Test Resource Management Center under the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense.
