A New York state police recruit, Jose L. Valeriano, 22, was arrested after attacking a trooper and attempting to take his gun at a training academy last week. Valeriano, who wanted to leave the academy, lunged at the trooper, attempting to grab his firearm, but was subdued by other academy staff members. The trooper suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital before being released. Valeriano was charged with second-degree attempted robbery and second-degree assault.
