The northern lights may be visible as far south as Illinois and Oregon this week.
A series of solar storms, called coronal mass ejections (CMEs), are expected to reach Earth this week, potentially causing the northern lights to be visible as far south as Illinois and Oregon. Forecasters predict a G3 geomagnetic storm, which can make the auroras visible across the northeastern United States, upper Midwest, and northern United States. However, cloud cover and daylight hours in some regions may hinder the light show.
