5 rescued after boat catches fire near Catalina Island: Five people were rescued from a 51-foot power vessel that caught fire off Catalina Island. LA County lifeguards and the fire department responded to the incident at 7 am. Good Samaritans had already rescued the passengers, and all five were checked for smoke inhalation with no injuries reported. The boat sank after engulfing in flames.
