2024: Minnesota updates CPS law, requiring rear-facing seats for under-2s, forward-facing for 2-4s, booster seats for 4-9s, seat belts for 9
Effective August 1, 2024, Minnesota will update its Child Passenger Safety (CPS) law, requiring children under 2 to remain in rear-facing seats, those aged 2-4 to use forward-facing seats with internal harnesses, and those aged 4-9 to use booster seats. Children aged 9 or older must use vehicle seat belts, and all children under 13 must sit in the back seat if possible. A 5-step test is introduced to assess proper seat belt fit, and weight and height limits for each category are determined by the child passenger restraint system manufacturer.
