Ladakh IMD Director warns of rapid glacier melting due to high temperatures, threatening region's water supply.

Ladakh IMD Director Sonam Lotus warns of the steep rise in temperatures in the region as a matter of concern, noting that while high temperatures are typical in the July-August period, the rapid melting of glaciers due to intense heat poses a serious threat to the region's water supply. The region, primarily a cold desert, experiences winters with temperatures dropping to -20 to -25 degrees Celsius in Leh, but summers are not uncommon in July-August.
