Italy agrees to transfer migrants to Albania for asylum processing under a five-year deal.

From August, migrants reaching Italy may be transferred to Albania while their asylum claims are processed under a controversial deal. Italy will host thousands of asylum-seekers in two Albanian centers, expected to accommodate 1,000 people by August 1. The deal, signed for five years, provides for the sheltering of up to 3,000 migrants picked up by the Italian coast guard each month.
