The ISPCA urges Ireland's government to halt hare coursing licenses, citing cruelty and injury to hares.
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) has called for Ireland's government to stop issuing hare coursing licenses, describing the practice as "cruel, outdated, and barbaric." Despite being a protected species under the Wildlife Act 1976, over 3,000 hares were captured and coursed during the 2023/24 season, with over 100 injured or killed. The ISPCA is concerned about both legal and illegal hare coursing and has urged that funding be redirected towards addressing these issues.
